The Lao government recently proposed a legislation in which marriages between older, expatriate men and Lao women under 28 years old will be scrutinized.  The LPDR apparently believes that such marriages cannot be due to love.  They believe such women married only for money.  Consequently, this will "dishonor" Lao women, in the opinion of the Lao government.  So, older expatriates will be banned from marrying younger Lao women.  This says nothing about other older men who are not formerly from Laos marrying underage girls in Laos, however.  The LPDR definitely did not want to offend their Vietnamese comrades who may want to sample young Lao girls.

Let's see if such a legislation will fly.  I say the LPDR is practicing discrimination to the utmost degree.  Trying to regulate "love"?  Comical, indeed.
